The Spurs have waived guard James White.  White only played in 6 games (2 starts) for the Spurs in his rookie season and he averaged 22.8 minutes, 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.  White hit 43.9% of his shots from the floor, 28.6% from three point range and 80% from the free throw line.

The San Antonio Spurs acquire Vassilis Spanoulis from the Rockets

The Spurs have acquired the rights to point guard Vassilis Spanoulis and a 2009 2nd round draft pick from the Rockets for F/C Jackie Butler and the rights to forward Luis Scola.  Spanoulis played in 31 games (0 starts) last year for the Rockets as a rookie and he averaged 2.7 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.  He shot very poorly as he only hit 31.9% from the floor, 17.2% from three point range and 81% from the free throw line.  Spanoulis wants to play overseas so the Spurs might not get much from this deal.

The San Antonio Spurs re-sign forward Matt Bonner

Blogged under Big Spurs News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 4 July 2007 at 11:44 pm

The Spurs have signed forward Matt Bonner to a three-year, $9 million dollar contract.  Bonner played in 56 games for the Spurs last season and he averaged 11.7 minutes, 4.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game.  He is a good shooter too as he hit 44.7% from the floor, 38.3% from three point range and 71.1% from the free throw line.

Bonner has played in 216 (6 starts) NBA games and he has averaged 18.1 minutes, 6.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  He has hit 48.2% of his shots from the floor, 41.3% from three point range and 78.9% from the free throw line.

The San Antonio Spurs re-sign center Fabricio Oberto

Blogged under Big Spurs News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page by alleyoop on Wednesday 4 July 2007 at 11:36 pm

The Spurs have re-signed center Fabricio Oberto to a 3-year, $10.5 million dollar contract.  This was a good move by the Spurs as Oberto really improved as a player in the post season.  Oberto will likely battle Francisco Elson for the starting center job next season for the Spurs.

The San Antonio Spurs re-sign guard Jacque Vaughn

Blogged under Big Spurs News,Bloglockers,Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 3 July 2007 at 2:29 pm

The Spurs have re-signed reserve point guard Jacque Vaughn to a 2 year, $2.5 million dollar contract.  Vaughn played decent behind Tony Parker and that often kept Parker fresh during the season.  Vaughn played in 64 games (4 starts) and he averaged 11.9 minutes, 3.0 points, 1.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  He shot 42.5% from the floor and 75.4% from the free throw line last season.

Vaughn has been a backup pretty much his whole NBA career.  He’s played in 672 games (114 starts) and he has averaged 16.7 minutes, 4.6 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.  He’s never been a great shooter as he has shot 43.3% from the floor, 35.1% from three point range and 77.8% from the free throw line over his NBA career.
