The San Antonio Spurs have acquired 29-year old small forward Richard Jefferson from the Bucks in return for 38-year old Bruce Bowen, 36-year old Kurt Thomas and 34-year old center Fabricio Oberto. Oberto was then moved to the Pistons for 22-year old forward Amir Johnson. Jefferson played in 82 games (all starts) for the Bucks last season and he averaged 35.8 minutes, 19.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. He will make the Spurs’ offense even more devastating than it has been in the past. Jefferson has now played in 571 games (499 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 35.8 minutes, 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.
Bruce Bowen played in 80 games (10 starts) for the Spurs last season and he averaged 18.9 minutes, 2.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Bowen is a defensive stopper and the Spurs will miss that part of his game but his career is winding down. Kurt Thomas played in 79 games (10 starts) for the Spurs last season and he averaged 17.8 minutes, 4.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Fabricio Oberto played in 54 games (11 starts) last season for the Spurs and he averaged 12.5 minutes, 2.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. This was a excellent trade for the Spurs who are hungry for another NBA Championship and this move could help them get one.
