2. (53) Nando DeColo, SG

The Spurs decided to go global where they’ve had a lot of luck in the past by selecting 22-year old shooting guard Nando DeColo. DeColo played 3 seasons in the French and Euro Leagues averaging 13.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game. DeColo will likely be a project for the Spurs but he was worth taking where they got him.

2. (51) Jake McClinton, SG

Once again the Spurs get another steal. 23-year old Jake McClinton is a great offensive guard. He played in 125 games in four seasons at Siena and Miami (Fla) and he averaged 16.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. McClinton shot 42.6% from the floor in college. The Spurs are pretty well set at guard right now but he should be able to put up instant offense off the bench this season.

2. (37) DeJuan Blair, PF

The San Antonio Spurs were shocked to see 20-year old DeJuan Blair available in the 2nd round before snapping him up quickly. Blair is 6’7″, 265 pounds and he’s a very hungry player both on the glass and defense. Blair played in 72 games in two years at Pitt and he averaged 13.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.6 blocked shots per game. Look for Blair to learn behind Tim Duncan at power forward before replacing him down the road. This was such a steal the front office of the Spurs should take off the ski masks now.

The San Antonio Spurs acquire forward Richard Jefferson in three team trade

Blogged under Big Spurs News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General by alleyoop on Wednesday 24 June 2009 at 5:43 am

The San Antonio Spurs have acquired 29-year old small forward Richard Jefferson from the Bucks in return for 38-year old Bruce Bowen, 36-year old Kurt Thomas and 34-year old center Fabricio Oberto. Oberto was then moved to the Pistons for 22-year old forward Amir Johnson. Jefferson played in 82 games (all starts) for the Bucks last season and he averaged 35.8 minutes, 19.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. He will make the Spurs’ offense even more devastating than it has been in the past. Jefferson has now played in 571 games (499 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 35.8 minutes, 17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

Bruce Bowen played in 80 games (10 starts) for the Spurs last season and he averaged 18.9 minutes, 2.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Bowen is a defensive stopper and the Spurs will miss that part of his game but his career is winding down. Kurt Thomas played in 79 games (10 starts) for the Spurs last season and he averaged 17.8 minutes, 4.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Fabricio Oberto played in 54 games (11 starts) last season for the Spurs and he averaged 12.5 minutes, 2.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. This was a excellent trade for the Spurs who are hungry for another NBA Championship and this move could help them get one.
