The San Antonio Spurs are happy with their rookie class so far this year
20-year old SG/SF Kawhi Leonard had played pretty well in his first taste of the NBA. He has played in 36 games (16 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 23.1 minutes, 7.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Leonard is a good rebounder and defender, who is likely going to be a long term starter for the Spurs starting in the very near future. 20-year old point guard Cory Joseph has played in 25 games (1 start) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 8.0 minutes, 1.8 points, 0.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Joseph has only shot 35.3% from the floor so far this year. The Spurs are going to bring Joseph around slowly. 27-year old power forward Eric Dawson made a brief two game (0 start) appearance with the Spurs this year and he averaged 17.0 minutes, 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. The Spurs likely have Dawson’s phone number on speed dial in case the need arises in the future for a power forward.
