Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs wins the 2011-12 NBA Coach of the Year Award
63-year old head coach Gregg Popovich has been named the 2011-12 NBA Coach of the Year. He led the Spurs to a 50-16 (75.8%) record during the regular season which netted the Spurs the #1 overall seed in the Western Conference. Popovich coached up a lot of younger players this year as he tried to rest his Big Three (Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili) over the season. Popovich is now 847-399 (68%) in his 16 years as the Spurs’ head coach during the regular season. He is also 109-73 (59.9%) in the post-season and he has led the Spurs to four NBA Titles. The only other time Popovich was named the NBA Coach of the Year came back in 2002-03 and the Spurs won the NBA Title that year.
