64-year old head coach Gregg Popovich had his Spurs on the brink of a fifth NBA Championship against huge odds in 2012-13. A few missed opportunities and lucky shots by the Heat at the end of Game #6 of the NBA Finals did them in. That being said, Popovich might have done his best coaching job in 2012-13. He led the Spurs to another Southwest Division title with a 58-24 record (70.7%). He then led the Spurs to a 15-6 (71.4%) record in the post-season against a gauntlet of solid teams. Popovich is now 905-423 (68.1%) in his first 17 years as the Spurs’ head coach during the regular season. He is also 133-83 (61.6%) in the playoffs so far in his career with the Spurs. Popovich is also 4-1 in the NBA Finals, so as to me he is still the best head coach in the NBA.
