Gregg Popovich continues rolling along for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under Bloglockers, Coaching, Front Page, General by joelapinski on Friday 21 June 2013 at 12:39 pm

64-year old head coach Gregg Popovich had his Spurs on the brink of a fifth NBA Championship against huge odds in 2012-13.  A few missed opportunities and lucky shots by the Heat at the end of Game #6 of the NBA Finals did them in.  That being said, Popovich might have done his best coaching job in 2012-13.  He led the Spurs to another Southwest Division title with a 58-24 record (70.7%).  He then led the Spurs to a 15-6 (71.4%) record in the post-season against a gauntlet of solid teams.  Popovich is now 905-423 (68.1%) in his first 17 years as the Spurs’ head coach during the regular season.  He is also 133-83 (61.6%) in the playoffs so far in his career with the Spurs.  Popovich is also 4-1 in the NBA Finals, so as to me he is still the best head coach in the NBA.

63-year old head coach Gregg Popovich has his Spurs playing well again so far in 2012-13. The Spurs are 23-8 (74.2%) so far this year, which has them in first place in the Southwest Division of the NBA, 2.5 games ahead of the Grizzlies. The Spurs are now 870-407 in the regular season in Popovich’s first 17 years on the job. He is a 2-time NBA Coach of the Year and he has won Four NBA Titles with the Spurs. Popovich is a master of giving his older players time off, which keeps his bench very sharp.

63-year old Gregg Popovich got his Spurs to play really well in 2012-13. The Spurs were 50-16 (75.8%) during the regular season and 10-4 (71.4%) in the playoffs last year. The Spurs are now 847-399 (68%) in his first 16 regular seasons with the Spurs. Those 847 wins are #13 in NBA history for a head coach. The Spurs are also 118-77 (60.5%) in the playoffs on Popovich’s watch. He has led the Spurs to four NBA titles so far in his career and he will be trying to win one for the thumb in 2012-13.
