The San Antonio Spurs won’t be looking to add much next month

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General by alleyoop on Monday 28 January 2013 at 3:08 pm

The Spurs are now 36-11 (76.6%) so far this year, which has them on top of the Western Conference, 1 game ahead of the Thunder. The Spurs would like to deal DeJuan Blair and young point guard Cory Joseph is probably available too. A perfect kind of team to deal Blair to would be a rebuilding team like the Bobcats, who would start him at power forward. If the Spurs could get a future first round pick from the Bobcats, they likely make the deal. The Spurs are looking for draft picks back for Blair or Joseph, rather than players, so they will need to pursue deals with teams with cap space.

Head coach Gregg Popovich continues to watch Duncan’s workload, which has kept him fresh and healthy so far this year.

Manu Ginobili is starting to heat up a little bit lately for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Steppin Up by alleyoop on Wednesday 2 January 2013 at 7:40 pm

35-year old shooting guard Manu Ginobili is having his minutes limited early this year in an effort to keep him fresh and healthy this year. He has played in 29 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 24.2 minutes, 12.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game. In his last three games, Ginobili is averaging 16.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. The Spurs hope that Ginobili can excel while playing less minutes in 2012-13.

Nando De Colo is playing decent basketball this year for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Saturday 29 December 2012 at 10:42 pm

The Spurs waited a few years for 25-year old shooting guard Nando De Colo (just like they did for center Tiago Splitter). They are taking things slow with him so far this year as he has played in 26 games (1 start) in which he is averaging 12.3 minutes, 3.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. He is shooting 44.4% from the floor, 37.5% from three point range and 77.8% from the free throw line so far this year. De Colo looks like he has some game, so he likely is going to have a bright future for the Spurs.

The Spurs are now 870-407 in the regular season in Popovich’s first 17 years on the job. He is a 2-time NBA Coach of the Year and he has won Four NBA Titles with the Spurs. Popovich is a master of giving his older players time off, which keeps his bench very sharp.
