The San Antonio Spurs didn’t have much P.T. available for their rookies in 2012-13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by joelapinski on Friday 21 June 2013 at 12:34 pm

The Spurs had their eyes on winning an NBA Title in 2012-13, so they didn’t have much P.T. available for their rookies.  25-year old shooting guard Nando De Colo played in 72 games (6 starts) for the Spurs last year and he averaged 12.8 minutes, 3.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.  In his six starts last year, De Colo averaged 27.5 minutes, 7.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game.  DeColo only shot 33.3% from the floor (14 of 42) in his starts.  26-year old center Aron Baynes played in 16 games (0 starts) for the Spurs last year and he averaged 8.8 minutes, 2.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.  Look for these guys to play more in the near future for the Spurs.

The San Antonio Spurs don’t have much P.T. available for their rookies right now

25-year old shooting guard Nando De Colo and 26-year old center Aron Baynes don’t get to play much for the Spurs.  De Colo has played in 53 games (3 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 11.8 minutes, 3.3 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.  He is shooting 42.3% from the floor, 36.4% from the three point line and 75% from the free throw line so far this year, which isn’t too bad.  He could see a bump in P.T. now with Tony Parker out of action for the next month.  Baynes was just recently signed by the Spurs.  He has played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 6.3 minutes, 2.4 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.  Baynes isn’t going to see much P.T. any time soon for the Spurs as they are loaded at center.

Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs is heading to the Rising Stars Game

Blogged under Big Spurs News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports,Steppin Up by joelapinski on Friday 1 February 2013 at 12:38 pm

21-year old small forward Kawhi Leonard has been selected to play in the Rising Stars Game.  He has played in 29 games (28 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 28.7 minutes, 9.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.8 steals per game.  He has now played in 93 games (67 starts) in his first two years with the Spurs and he is averaging 25.4 minutes, 8.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game.  Leonard is going to get more of a chance to really show what he can do in a game like the Rising Stars one, as he won’t be sharing the ball with players like Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili.

Nando De Colo is playing decent basketball this year for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Saturday 29 December 2012 at 10:42 pm

The Spurs waited a few years for 25-year old shooting guard Nando De Colo (just like they did for center Tiago Splitter). They are taking things slow with him so far this year as he has played in 26 games (1 start) in which he is averaging 12.3 minutes, 3.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. He is shooting 44.4% from the floor, 37.5% from three point range and 77.8% from the free throw line so far this year. De Colo looks like he has some game, so he likely is going to have a bright future for the Spurs.

Nando De Colo is off to a slow start for the San Antonio Spurs

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Wednesday 21 November 2012 at 4:18 pm

25-year old rookie shooting guard Nando De Colo is off to a slow start to his NBA career. He has played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 6.8 minutes, 1.5 points, 1.0 rebound and 0.3 assists per game. He is only 2 of 10 (20%) shooting from the floor so far this year. De Colo is going to have a hard time getting minutes this year unless the Spurs suffer more injuries ahead of him.

The San Antonio Spurs got some good work from their rookies in 2011-12

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Thursday 7 June 2012 at 7:55 am

20-year old SG/SF Kawhi Leonard looked really solid as a rookie for the Spurs. He played in 64 games (39 starts) for the Spurs this year and he averaged 24.0 minutes, 7.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Leonard has a huge upside, and I think he’s just going to keep getting better as his career goes on. 20-year old Cory Joseph had a rough time as a rookie for the Spurs. He played in 29 games (1 start) for the Spurs last year and he averaged 9.2 minutes, 2.0 points, 0.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Joseph only shot 31.4% from the floor last year, so he’s going to need to improve before he gets a shot at more minutes on the floor.

The San Antonio Spurs release rookie point guard Justin Dentmon

Blogged under Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Monday 2 April 2012 at 1:59 pm

The Spurs have released 26-year old rookie point guard Justin Dentmon. He played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Spurs this year and he averaged 9.5 minutes, 2.0 points, 0.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. The Spurs aren’t going to miss Dentmon at all the rest of the year as they are loaded at point guard.

The San Antonio Spurs are happy with their rookie class so far this year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Wednesday 7 March 2012 at 8:22 am

20-year old SG/SF Kawhi Leonard had played pretty well in his first taste of the NBA. He has played in 36 games (16 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 23.1 minutes, 7.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Leonard is a good rebounder and defender, who is likely going to be a long term starter for the Spurs starting in the very near future. 20-year old point guard Cory Joseph has played in 25 games (1 start) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 8.0 minutes, 1.8 points, 0.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Joseph has only shot 35.3% from the floor so far this year. The Spurs are going to bring Joseph around slowly. 27-year old power forward Eric Dawson made a brief two game (0 start) appearance with the Spurs this year and he averaged 17.0 minutes, 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. The Spurs likely have Dawson’s phone number on speed dial in case the need arises in the future for a power forward.

The San Antonio Spurs are getting solid work from their rookies

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Saturday 11 February 2012 at 8:48 pm

20-year old SG/SF Kawhi Leonard has been a little inconsistent but he plays really hard on both ends of the basketball court. Leonard has played in 27 games (15 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 23.7 minutes, 6.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He is going to be a full-time starter for the Spurs down the road. 20-year old point guard Cory Joseph has not gotten much of a chance to play so far this year. He has played in 18 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 8.1 minutes, 1.6 points, 0.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. Joseph is only shooting 37.5% from the floor (12 for 32) so far this year, and that’s not going to help him get more P.T. for the Spurs.

The San Antonio Spurs are happy with their rookies so far this year

20-year old SG/SF Kawhi Leonard has worked his way into the starting lineup for the Spurs. He has played in 11 games (1 start) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 22.1 minutes, 7.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 0.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Leonard is shooting a very rock solid 50% from the floor so far this year. Leonard has a really high upside which was the reason that the Spurs dealt guard George Hill for him on draft night. 20-year old point guard Cory Joseph has only played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Spurs so far this year and he is averaging 5.5 minutes, 0.5 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.
